After a very hectic year (over a dozen concerts and events) we decided to have a fairly quiet summer with just 2 concerts in July. Which gave us some much needed time to plan and regroup for next season!
On July 7th, we were guests of the Brookside Concert Association and performed at the beautiful Midland Cultural Centre. Our thanks to Brookside and all the wonderful folks who came out to the concert. It was a wonderful night!
One Sunday, July 24, we performed at our favourite summer bandshell location, the Kiwannis Bandshell in Upper Queen’s Park, Stratford. Every year, we are constantly amazed by how beautiful both the location and audiences are and that our luck re: no rain at our concert has held for the last 10 years! Thank you to the Stratford Kiwannis Club and the Strat Concert Band for always making us feel so welcome.
At the end of the season, we had the 1st Annual WSB Pig Roast, hosted by our Principle Cornet Brad Norton! Bravos to Colin Westover (Tenor Horn) and Brad for the expert cooking skills. The perfect way to end a fantastic year for the band 🙂
Congrats to our flugelhorn star Matthew Ross, who is headed to the prestigious Rice University Shepherd School Of Music in Texas on a full music scholarship this fall.
We can’t possibly put into words how *much* we will miss this guy – an incredible musician, a great bandsman!
We were very blessed to have had two tremendous musicians in our band for the last several years, Miranda Canonico (Solo Cornet) and Tyler Cairns (Bass Trombone). Besides getting ENGAGED this year, their other big news was that Miranda won her audition and will be taking up her duties as the New Assistant Principal/Second trumpet of the Calgary Philharmonic this fall. Our loss is the Calgary Phil’s gain!
Our best wishes go with these two wonderful people who have added so MUCH to our band during their years with us!
Thank you for your great musicianship, crazy fun selves and the absolute delight of hanging out with you both every week.
We will MISS you so much.
